it's giveaway day again!

It's that time again--Sew, Mama, Sew! giveaway day! I'm giving away the same thing I always give away--morsbags! More specifically, I'm giving away this morsbag--

Morsbags are reusable fabric grocery bags. I usually make them from thrifted sheets, but this one is made from a brand new (clearance) fabric shower curtain from Target. I love the fun, summery stripes. It would also make a great beach or pool bag in addition to hauling groceries. There will be at least one winner, but I will hopefully be giving away three bags to three winners if I can finish the other two this week. (Colors/pattern placement on any additional bags will be different--I'll post additional pictures as they're completed.)

To be entered to win, just leave a comment on this post (one comment per person and US residents only) about something you do (or would like to do) that is environmentally friendly. I will use random.org to choose the winner(s) from all comments left by 12 midnight CST on Friday, May 27, 2011. I will ship the item(s) by Tuesday, May 31(since Monday is a holiday). Be sure to leave an e-mail address if I can't contact you through your comment. Thanks for participating!

  1. I love to use reusable grocery bags--I keep them in my car for unplanned trips to the store. :)

  2. I use reusable bags but I also take my excess plastic grocery bags back to the store to be recycled.

And I'm on a waiting list to be a part of an organic community garden.. I'm excited about that :-)

  3. We don't own a car and always use reusable grocery bags, so I need good, sturdy ones!

  4. What a fun thing to comment about! Living in Austin, TX, there is constant pressure to keep "upping" your eco consciousness ... so in addition to recycling everything, limiting trash, etc..I have become addicted to using my scraps rather than throwing them away - fabric that is! It's another version of reuse/recycling!

  17. Lovin' on those stripes! I try to use reusable grocery bags, but I often forget. I am a religious recycler though... I dig things out of the garbage all the time that my husband thinks aren't recycleable :) and I'm working on switching our family to reusable water bottles and snack bags.

  26. This is a great bag - I love that you upcycle/recycle fabrics for these bags. :)

I've been trying to walk to my local errands (library, groceries, etc) instead of drive - which is easy when I'm unemployed and I don't have many places to go and I'm trying to avoid spending any money. :)

  29. I hadn't thought to look at the clearance sheets and curtains for fabric finds, but I'll definitely have to do that from now on. I'd like to compost. At my old house we had an amazing compost bin, but at our condo we can't because everything is kind of shared space. If I had my own space though I'd compost, and then garden with the soil

  30. My most recent venture into saving the planet (besides using my market bags!) has been to make my 8 month old son's baby food. Not only is it healthier for him, but I am doing my best to support local growers and creating SO much less trash by not using store-bought baby foods.

If we don't take our lightly used clothes to the mission center around the corner, we enjoy taking them apart and repurposing them. It is fun to see fabrics get a new life just like this shower curtain.
