more shirts

I made two more shirts for my son yesterday using a stencil I found at spraypaintstencils.  There's quite a few free stencils on this site, and I like that there are a lot that can be used for making "boy" shirts.  I used the skateboarder stencil and enlarged it on the copy machine at the library to get the size I wanted.  First we made this shirt--

The color wasn't changing very fast, so I used a hair dryer to speed it up.  I think I took the template off too soon as it started to bleed around the edges, but it gives it a cool, distressed look.  Since we had the bleach out, I made another shirt for this fall--

I accidentally dripped some bleach on this one, so I just sprayed the whole thing down.  I picked up this shirt for 99 cents at Goodwill.  Now I won't be able to pass up all those stained, well-worn shirt since I'll be able to "fix" them.  I am loving these freezer paper stencils and will try to paint some shirts this weekend.  Thanks for looking!

freezer paper and bleach. . .

It sounds like a crazy combination.  Yesterday, my son and I made a pirate shirt using a jolly roger template at Crap I've Made.  I may become addicted to freezer paper stenciling.  Aside from a few little issues, the shirt turned out great--

Of course I ripped a hole in the shirt trying to remove the pocket.  I have a tremendous amount of experience with a seam ripper so I should have known better.  I was so excited that I had made it to the last few stitches without making a hole that I ended up making a hole.  So I had to do a little patch job, and it's barely noticeable.  There were also a few edges of the stencil that I didn't iron enough so a little bit of bleach had started to seep under the paper.  But my son is three and doesn't notice these minor imperfections and thinks his mom is pretty awesome for making him a pirate shirt.  Thanks for looking!

one busy weekend

As a mom, the hardest thing for me to come to terms with was the fact that I was never going to accomplish everything (or sometimes anything) I wanted to in a day.  Now that my son is three years old, it is much easier.  I still don't get much stuff done, but we do have a lot of fun.  Since my husband was working his weekend of two 12-hour shifts, it was pretty much a Mom & Son weekend, and we made the most of it.  Saturday morning we were at Boingz bright and early for some bouncing, climbing, and sliding.

Then we were off to pick up Grandma for some shopping at the The Whistle Stop Country Store in Elkhorn.  It was such a cute little store with so many treasures to look at.  I loved all of their rescued furniture--if only I had more room in my house!  After that, we went out to luch with Grandma and Papa then came home to start weeding the garden.

We also got an early start on Sunday and went to the Henry Doorly Zoo.  It's not as crowded if you go early in the day.  Our big adventure was riding the Skyfari.  I was a little worried my son (or I) would get freaked out once we got on, but it was so much fun!

So the house is still a mess, and I have to go back to work tomorrow, but who cares?

2S4Y Kazan's Sketch 50

I was able to whip up a very simple card based on Kazan's Sketch 50 over at 2 Sketches 4 You--

The patterned papers are from the Making Memories Sydney scrapbook pad, and the sentiment is a K & Company sticker. Thanks for looking!

Cloud9 Quilt

I finally made a quilt using this Cloud9 Quilt-in-a-Day Tutorial.  I actually finished the quilt back in February but am just now posting a picture.  This is a very belated baby blanket for my son's bed (he is now three years old).  He doesn't even like to sleep with it because it's not as soft as his fleece blanket.  Go figure.  Anyway, I think it turned out great.

I appliqued stars on the plain blue quilt blocks.  It's hard to tell, but the other fabrics have either a star or polka dot print.  His room is a red/white/blue/nautical theme, so it coordinates pretty well.  Even though he doesn't use it on his bed, it looks pretty good hanging on the back of the rocking chair.  Thanks for looking!
