A Few Comments on Being a Mom

So my blog is supposed to be about balancing crafting with being a mom, and I realized I hadn't commented too much on the mom aspect. In the last 17 months, I have been sick more times than I have the entire rest of my life (aside from my own chronic childhood ear infections). I woke up this morning with my second pinkeye infection. I've also had an ear infection that resulted in a perforated eardrum, a terrible case of pneumonia, and more colds than I can count. I knew daycare was a source of illness, but I didn't think I'd get them all, too.

On another note, I've started cleaning out our basement so I can create a crafting haven. I really want an organized place to work so I can make the most of my crafting time, and I lost my craft room when we needed to make room for the baby. I found my copy of "What to Expect When You're Expecting." I was so excited about being pregnant and the changes that were happening that I faithfully read every section of that book at the appropriate month of gestation. I then found my unopened and unread copy of "What to Expect the First Year." The first year flew by so quickly, I didn't have time to read about it. We were too busy living it.

Happy Mother's Day!

I want to share with everybody the awesome Mother's Day gifts I'm giving this year. Thanks to Kelly at happydaystudio, my mom and mother-in-law will be receiving these beautiful watercolor paintings (my photos don't begin to show how beautiful they are). Kelly is a fellow EtsyGreetings member, and her handmade cards always catch my eye when I'm shopping on Etsy. She was so great to work with and was able to come up with these adorable custom paintings of the grandmas and grandkids from a few photos I sent her. These are the most thoughtful and special gifts I've given in a long time. I also purchased a Mother's Day painting for myself which I haven't framed yet, but it will look great in my son's room. Be sure to check out her Etsy shop to see all of her creations. Happy Mother's Day to all the mommies out there!

National Scrapbooking Day

There's nothing better than having the weekend off and being able to craft--even though I should be catching up on laundry, dishes, vacuuming. . . Instead I participated in a few card challenges over at Itty Bitty Scrap Shack. The first card I made was for Saturday's card challenge. The challenge was to make a card using polka dots. I was a little short on time and inspiration, so I used some polka dot paper I had to make a birthday card. Sunday's challenge was to make a card with stripes. For this one, I was a little more creative and used strips of cardstock that I stitched to white cardstock to make my "stripes." I LOVE the way it turned out, so I'll be making lots more cards using this technique. Hope everyone had a good weekend!
